An overview of CELPIP and CAEL tests
Today we will discuss about CELPIP and CAEL Test, these tests are useful for foreign workers, skilled workers and students those who are already in Canada and either want to apply for permanent residency or want to study in Canada.
CELPIP (Canadian English Language Index Programme) is developed by University Of British Columbia and operated by Paragon Testing Enterprise.
It is of basically 3 different types: CELPIP-General, CELPIP-General L/S, CAEL- academic .

CELPIP-General: This test has been designed as a proof of English language proficiency for those applying for Permanent residency in Canada under the following immigration categories
Federal Skilled Worker Programme (FSWP)
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Various Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
This test is computer based test which assesses general level of functional competency of English in every day situation, it consists of 4 modules: LISTENING, READING, WRITING and SPEAKING.
TEST FORMAT
LISTENING: 45 minutes
READING: 60 minutes
WRITING: 53 minutes
SPEAKING: 20 minutes
Total Test Time: 180 minutes (3 hours), test results are available in 8 business days.
CELPIP General L/S: is accepted by Citizenship and immigration Canada (CIC). It accurately assesses listening and speaking proficiency for those applying for Canadian citizenship. It is taken by the adults between the ages of 14 and 64 who apply for Canadian Citizenship. It is completely computer-delivered.
The CELPIP-General L/S Test has two test components: Listening and Speaking

LISTENING: 47 minutes
SPEAKING: 20 minutes
Total test time allotted is 67 minutes or 1 hour 7 minutes.

CAEL: The Canadian Academic English Language Assessment is a standardized test of English designed to describe the level of English of test takers planning to study in an English-medium college or university, or to apply for membership in a number of professional associations.
Test takers read articles, listen to a lecture, answer questions and write a short essay – all on one subject, as they would be expected to do in a first year university or college classroom.
TEST FORMAT
The CAEL Assessment consists of two parts. Part 1 is the Written Assessment and Part 2 is the Oral Language Test (OLT). Total Test Time: Approx. 150 minutes.
The CAEL Assessment is accepted by over 150 post-secondary institutions and professional associations across Canada and internationally.

The fee for the CAEL Assessment in Canada is $195.00 + tax. The test fees may vary for the CAEL Assessment outside of Canada. All fees mentioned are as of date.
